Refund policy
Hey, stuff happens, right? I understand that sometimes things go wrong, and sometimes you won’t be happy with your purchase. I want you to be happy! So, if there’s a problem with your order, I hope you’ll email me at johnny@johnnybtruant.com and we’ll see if we can work something out.
That being said, below are my official return and refund rules, all of which are in force by default if we disagree. By making a purchase on this site, you agree to this return policy.
I know it’s boring, but let’s get started!
One-person shop
With all of this “return and exchange” stuff — and all policies on this site, actually — please know that I am a solo operator: just one author out there doing this all by himself. I do not have a team or support staff. When you contact the store, you are contacting me individually. Being a normal human being, I am not on call 24/7 and I tend to do crazy things like sleep at night and take vacations with my family. Please be patient when you contact me. It might take a day or three for me to respond depending on what’s going on, but I always respond.
If you email me and don’t hear back within a few days, chances are I didn’t get your message for some reason. I’m excellent at managing my inbox, so this might mean internet ghouls ate your email between your computer and mine. For that reason, if you don’t hear back within a reasonable amount of time, you might want to ping me again.
Chargebacks
In the case of a problem, it might be tempting to contact your credit card provider to dispute the charge, but I’ll ask you kindly, as a solo operator who swears he’s doing his best and loves his readers, to please contact ME before contacting your credit card to see if we can work it out first. You can always reach me by emailing johnny@johnnybtruant.com.
30-day dispute window
All return, exchange, or refund requests must be made in writing (by email to johnny@johnnybtruant.com) within 30 days of the purchase date. Please note that making a request within this window does not in any way guarantee that such a request will be honored, because all are further subject to the specific conditions written below. Requests that occur more than 30 days from the date of purchase cannot be honored.
Whether or not your request comes within 30 days of purchase is determined by the date you SEND your request email, not when I receive or reply to it. Please rest assured that even if it takes me a few days to reply to your request, those extra days will not count toward the 30-day time limit.
For clarity, all sections below are subject to this 30-day window.
Ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital downloads
Because ebooks and audiobooks are digital products offering instant downloads, I cannot offer returns or refunds on any digital purchase once the product (the individual ebook(s) or audiobook(s)) has/have been downloaded. Whether or not a product has been downloaded by the customer is something my dashboard allows me to see.
If you would like to request a return and refund of any digital product BEFORE it’s been downloaded, please forward your receipt to me at johnny@johnnybtruant.com and explain the situation and I’ll help you out.
If there is a problem with the file (something you’d only learn after downloading), the above “no returns on digital goods” rule does not apply, and I will of course help fix the issue, which might include sending you new files. If I’m not able to resolve the issue, I will happily give you a full return. If you experience this kind of problem, please forward me your receipt and explain the specific defect you see in your files.
(NOTE: The above is relevant if the files are damaged or incorrect, NOT if you are experiencing difficulty getting the files and need technical support. If you need tech support, you should directly contact the fine folks at BookFunnel: the service that delivers my digital files by going to https://bookfunnel.com/help. BookFunnel is good people. My friend Damon, who first introduced me to Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets, runs it. He also has a pretty epic beard.)
Please note that if your files are incorrect or messed up in some way, you must send your request via email within 30 days of purchase. Because the clock is ticking on stuff like this, please always check any files you download right away. Or, if you bought the wrong book by mistake, DON’T download them (because digital files that are correct but just not what you meant to order are nonrefundable once downloaded), and contact me instead.
Print-on-demand books
As I write this (which I am doing by hand — no boring legal template for this guy), all of the books for sale on this site are only produced after a customer orders one. All of them are print-on-demand, not already-printed books sitting in my garage or a warehouse somewhere.
Because print-on-demand books are only created once you order them, I cannot offer refunds or returns on any printed books, be they in paperback, hardback, or any other printed format. This is because they can’t just be plopped back in stock. Nope: those books were created just for you.
NOTE: Production on your books will not begin until one hour after purchase, and within that window, changes can still be made. If you would like to cancel or make changes to your book order within that one-hour window, click the “View Your Order” button in your receipt email and follow the instructions.
However, as with digital goods above, this “no returns or refunds” thing doesn’t apply to books that are damaged or incorrect. If you received a damaged or misprinted book — or one different than the one you ordered — then of course I’ll fix it, provided you make your request within the aforementioned 30-day window.
If that happens (if you receive the wrong book or especially a damaged book) please send your receipt and a photograph showing the damaged or incorrect book to johnny@johnnybtruant.com within 30 days of purchase. I will assess the situation and, if warranted, will explain how to get a correct and good copy of the book to you.
Please note that if damaged or incorrect, printed books are eligible for replacement but not refund. Beyond 30 days of purchase, no returns on damaged or incorrect books (nor any other kind of return or refund request) will be honored.
